The author of the scroll is Yosa Buson (1716-1784) - a famous Japanese haiku poet and painter who created artwork on kakemono, which are traditional Japanese hanging scrolls. Kakemono is a general term for these scrolls that can be moved and stored. Buson's paintings were typical of the bunjinga style, which combines painting, calligraphy and poetry and emphasizes spiritual and artistic expression.
